I remember a faint light, casted by the fire from the grass-root houses, being the only guidance for walking around a small village on the highlands at night

Houses in Papua New Guinea Highlands are really simple and made completely using local organic material. They are almost always surrounded by vegetation, which keeps the air fresh

In Kasena men often hang out in the “boys house”, where only man are allowed. They often eat here all together and sometime also spend the night. I shared a morning with them telling boys’ stories and having lunch with freshly hash-grilled sweet potatoes, the stable food of the region. #png #ephemera #highlands #goroka #documentary #tribe

People of Kasena believe that some spirits called Nokundi live in the forest. These are only half of a man. During battles they used to cover them self with coal, mud and bamboo in order to resemble to them and frighten the enemy. #png #ephemera #highlands #goroka #portrait #documentary

I’m sharing this adventure on the highlands with Pamela and Ramiro, a young couple from Argentina, and Bonnie, a local who is helping us visiting the area. Rides on the bus are always something here! #png #ephemera #highlands #documentary #travel

During our stay in Moroma we were given as an accommodation one of the rooms of the local Health Center, that is probably the most modern construction in the village.

Another portrait from Morona, in the Chimbu province. One of the reason why these costumes could disappear is the fact that they are often made using the skin and plumage of endangered animals.
