In the Chiricahua mountains trails are frequently blocked by fire-killed trees that are still falling. Due to dense brush growth, steep elevations, precipitous canyon walls, an undependable water supply, it can be really hard to hike on these trails. I walked for 6km with the @skyislandalliance team only to find out that the water source we were looking for had moved because of erosion and wasn’t accessible

On the weekend I joined the team and volunteers of the Sky Island Alliance (@skyislandalliance), an NGO that strives to protect and restore the unique biodiversity of these mountain ranges. We visited the Chiricahua mountains to assess springs and other water resources in the area

Sky islands are isolated mountains in South Arizona and New Mexico surrounded by radically different lowland environments. The significant physical distance that separates each mountain range creates habitat islands with unique biodiversity. #skyislands #ephemera #arizona #aerial #travel #documentary

On my way from Alaska to Florida I decided to make a quick stop in South Arizona to visit the unique environment of the socalled Sky Islands. #skyislands #ephemera #arizona #aerial #travel #documentary

The time I spent in Kivalina was an eye-opening experience. Even if only few people live here, getting to know their life made me realize how imminent are the changes that our planet and our species are going through. Now it’s time to head South. #kivalina #ephemera #alaska #aerial #travel #documentary

Kids in Kivalina are addicted to jumping and bouncing. I suspect they are just learning how to fly. #kivalina #ephemera #alaska #kids #travel #documentary

Repi comes from a family of hunters. He explained to me that because of climate change they’re having a hard time storing enough meat to get through winter. An average family needs around 15 seals. This year he got only 5 and he was one of the luckiest one in Kivalina. #kivalina #ephemera #portrait #travel #documentary

When the fishing is successful is up to women to take care of the catch. Here salmon is prepared to be smoked after being marinated in brown sugar and spices. The final result will serve as food during the following winter. #kivalina #ephemera #alaska #fishing #travel #documentary

People from Kivalina base their subsistence on hunting and fishing. Men go out in the ocean or up the river to get mostly fish, seals, ducks, moose, caribou. These activities are becoming more difficult and more dangerous because of climate change. #kivalina #ephemera #alaska #portrait #boat #travel #documentary
