Hello new Zealand. In the following days I will rent a camper-van and drive around North Island to look for authentic Maori culture.

Thank you Papua New Guinea. It has been a tough trip (lost my phone in the process) but the experience itself was so enriching. See you in a couple of years (maybe with my own jeep ;) )

In Kasena men often hang out in the “boys house”, where only man are allowed. They often eat here all together and sometime also spend the night.
I shared a morning with them telling boys’ stories and having lunch with freshly hash-grilled sweet potatoes, the stable food of the region.

People of Kasena believe that some spirits called Nokundi live in the forest. These are only half of a man. During battles they used to cover them self with coal, mud and bamboo in order to resemble to them and frighten the enemy.

I’m sharing this adventure on the highlands with Pamela and Ramiro, a young couple from Argentina, and Bonnie, a local who is helping us visiting the area.
Rides on the bus are always something here!

During our stay in Moroma we were given as an accommodation one of the rooms of the local Health Center, that is probably the most modern construction in the village.
In this aerial view of Morona you can see how the village balances the natural forest of the highlands with human plantations.
You can also notice how, similar to what noticed in Tanzania, metal sheets roofs are replacing more and more the traditional thatched ones.
